4 Steps to Boost Your Sexual Health

4 Steps to Boost Your Sexual Health

The team at No Mercy Sports Medicine, led by Dr. Moisés Irizarry-Román, understands very well that your sexual health is an important aspect of your overall health.

As men’s health experts, we also understand that millions of men face problems in this area — erectile dysfunction (ED) alone affects between one-third and one-half of men in the United States at some point in their life, and millions of men have lower-than-normal libidos thanks to issues that range from low testosterone to stress.

Whatever the problems in your sex life, we’re here to help. To start, we’re using this month’s blog to outline four great steps that you can take to support your overall sexual health.

1. Seek our help

It’s important to know what’s behind the issues with your sexual health, and we can work with you to address your concerns. The most common drivers of sexual dysfunction include:

Sexual disorders are often a side effect of an underlying condition that may warrant treatment. For example, if we find that your testosterone levels are below normal, this can lead to ED and low libido. By correcting your hormone levels through hormone replacement therapy, we should be able to improve your symptoms and boost your sex life.

2. De-stress

There’s no shortage of things to stress about in life, but a constant state of anxiety and worry can wreak havoc on all facets of your life. Additionally, sexual health issues themselves can lead to stress, creating a vicious cycle that only serves to exacerbate the issue.

Your body wasn’t designed to rest in an ongoing state of stress. This can exact both a physical and mental toll.

If you want to improve your sexual health, it’s a good idea to reduce stress in your life. You can try deep-breathing exercises, hiking, getting together with friends, meditation, listening to music — whatever works to put you in a more relaxed state.

3. Get some exercise

One of the leading causes of ED is poor vascular health — blood isn’t flowing well enough to your penis to achieve or maintain an erection. And one of the best ways to improve your vascular health is to get some exercise.

We recommend that you get at least 30-60 minutes of exercise a day to keep your blood vessels in great health. Also, a bit of exercise can improve your sexual stamina for a more satisfying sex life for both you and your partner.

4. Limit the booze

Having too many drinks in the evening is a surefire way to create problems when engaging in sex. Booze makes you sluggish and sleepy and far more likely to encounter problems with ED. In large quantities, alcohol also does nothing to boost your libido.

A glass of wine or beer is certainly a nice way to relax, but we suggest that you end there if you want the evening to turn romantic.
